Dear Partner in Education,
We wanted to express our thanks to those in our community who have inquired about helping us increase our funds for field trips and classroom activities. This letter is to help provide an opportunity for donors to support our Challenges Program!
Challenges is a Frederick County Public School program that serves students with severe communication delays. There are four Challenges classrooms at Carroll Manor Elementary in Adamstown, MD. These are classrooms that allow the students to have small group instruction with intensive staff support. The students range in age from 4-12 years old.
As a part of the program the students are exposed to various new and exciting experiences through field trips. As students with severe communication delays we can supplement their education by providing them with opportunities for learning essential life skills in a community setting including: communication skills, social interaction skills, and self-management skills. These learning experiences are so valuable and have proven to be a powerful learning tool for our students. This year we have several field trips that we are looking forward to, but our funds to cover buses, mileage and admission fees are limited.
Each of our classrooms also participates in weekly activities that help our students learn to follow directions and work together. The students complete cooking activities on a weekly basis that relate to the current unit. These valuable activities will also be limited due to our constrained financial resources.
We appreciate any amount that you are able to give for this worthy cause as it will benefit all of our students! Here’s an example of what your gift will achieve:
· $50 – Two months’ worth of cooking activities for an entire classroom.
· $200 – A trip to the therapeutic horseback farm for an entire classroom.
§ Each of the four classrooms is visiting a horseback farm to participate in a research-based therapeutic riding program once a month where our students learn about and take care of horses, ride the horses, and learn important communication and life skills (for a total of $800/month).
· $300 – A trip for all 4 classrooms to attend a field trip at Excellence Gym.
§ This trip will give them an opportunity to participate in gymnastics activities that will help to meet the students intensive sensory needs.
· $350 – A fieldtrip for all 4 classrooms to attend a play at the Weinberg Center.

Our staff, students, and the parents of our students appreciate you taking the time to consider a donation to our program as we know how much it will greatly benefit our students! Your donation will bring so much joy to these students with special needs – and without your support these programs won’t be possible! Thank you so much for partnering with us!
